"We have been a family owned and run business since 1928, proudly serving the farming community in Cumbria and beyond.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our wonderful customers, suppliers and our team of fantastic staff for their support over the years."
The statement concluded with a message for customers informing them that should they have any machines that are eligible for warranty repairs, the respective manufacturers should be contacted.
The business had two depots in Cumbria at Sandylands Road in Kendal, and Syke Park in Wigton.
The historied dealership was founded in 1928 by Chris Hayton. In the mid 1930’s they sold their first new tractor, and in 1954 the business became an International Harvester main dealer. In 2003 they became a two branch company enabling them to act as the main distributors for Case IH and Merlo for the whole of Cumbria.
Under their Facebook post were scores of sympathetic comments from customers, many of whom said their family had used C.T Hayton for three generations.
