According to data released by the AEA, there is still little sign of an upturn in the number of agricultural tractors being registered in the UK, with August's total of just 402 machines "barely half" the level typically seen at this time of year.
Agricultural economist at the Association, Stephen Howarth, explained, "August is always a fairly quiet month, with farmers occupied by fieldwork and the new registration mark coming in September. However, this year's figure was also 19% lower than in the same month of 2024. That is a broadly similar rate of decline to that seen over the year to date, meaning nearly 1,200 fewer tractors have been registered so far this year than 12 months ago."
The annual total reached 6,151 machines, 16% below the number registered in January to August 2024.
